About railcheck

A free, open-source tool that helps you check whether a planned RAILGUN withdrawal could be linked back to your deposit, before you unshield.

Why railcheck exists

railcheck is a community project built to help people keep the privacy they chose. It compares your amount with public on-chain deposits and asks three questions about your addresses and earlier withdrawals.

The check covers RAILGUN ETH (WETH) deposits on Ethereum from the last 180 days. Enter the amount before the 0.25% unshield fee. You never need to say which deposit is yours.

Privacy

Your input stays private.

Your amount and answers stay in this tab.

The check does not send them to a server, put them in the URL, or save them on your device. There is no wallet connection. There are no analytics or third-party page resources.

Every visitor gets the same pool file. The worker checks its file hash before it uses the data.

A host can receive your IP address when you load the page. A VPN or Tor can mask your IP address from the host. It does not remove all privacy risks.

How the check works

railcheck looks for sets of 1, 2 or 3 deposits that add up to your amount.

  1. The check allows a difference of up to 0.000005 ETH. It adds amounts before it compares them.
  2. Each matching set gets a weight. Smaller sets get a higher prior weight. The check also includes the chance of no exact set.
  3. The strongest deposit match sets the amount score. Many competing matches can reduce it.
  4. An address match sets a score of at least 100. A past transaction between the addresses sets at least 90. Withdrawing the rest of a deposit that you already partly withdrew also sets at least 90.
  5. Not sure uses the worse answer. It does not prove that a link exists.

When the amount score is 6 or more, railcheck tries amounts that are 10% to 30% lower. It shows the first amount with a score of 5 or less and at least 20 nearby deposits.

What the score means

The score runs from 0 to 100 and uses the strongest signal.

Score Band Meaning
0–5 Low No strong amount match was found.
6–20 Medium The amount points to a deposit.
21–50 High The amount gives a stronger link.
51–100 Critical The amount or your answers give a strong signal.

A score is a model output, not a measured chance that someone will identify you. A deposit match applies only if that deposit is yours.

Limits

Off-chain data can make the real risk higher.

  • The check covers 180 days. Older deposits and sets of more than 3 deposits are outside this model.
  • The model assumes that a broadcaster sends the withdrawal.
  • Withdrawing the rest of a deposit can create a link, because your withdrawals add up to that deposit. railcheck asks about this. It does not check other withdrawals.
  • A lower amount score does not remove a link between addresses.
  • The score uses fixed model weights. A model can miss a real link.

Questions

Can someone link my RAILGUN withdrawal to my deposit?

Yes. An amount, an address link, or withdrawals that add up to a deposit can connect a withdrawal to that deposit. Other data can also create a link.

Why does the withdrawal amount matter?

An amount can equal 1 deposit or a sum of 2 or 3 deposits. A rare match can point to its source. The result table lists those matching sets (amounts added together), not only one leg of a pair or triple.

Does railcheck see my amount or my address?

Your browser sees the amount so it can run the check. The site does not receive it. railcheck never asks for an address.

Which deposits does railcheck compare?

railcheck compares RAILGUN ETH deposits on Ethereum from the last 180 days. It excludes shields in transactions that spend private notes.

What amount should I withdraw?

If the amount points to deposits, railcheck can suggest a lower amount. Check it with your own address answers. A Low score does not remove all risk.
